D-seven visits Herschel Senoir School
December 14, 2009Wednesday 9th of December
D-seven were invited to perform on the last day of school at Herschel Senior School. At 8:00am sharp, all 8 of us sleepily made our way into the High School Theater for what turned out to be one of the most fun gigs this year. We were met by a body of 450 screaming girls and boy did we have fun! We performed for little over an hour and dropped some of our most popular songs Black Eyed Peas – I Gotta Feeling, Seal’s – Kiss from a Rose, Goldfish Tribute Medley and ended off with Sex on Fire – Kings of Leon. They were such a fantastic audience, we even performed Hide n Seek completely un-miced. Thanks to Michelle, Tessa & Margi for making it possible, we truly had a blast, to all the Herschel Girls…. you guys ROCK!

Young people don’t usually think about Cancer! There is often a pre-conceived idea that Cancer only affects Older People. Young people don’t want to think about “dreaded diseases”. As the number of people affected by Cancer continues to rise, we want to share information about the disease, about how to manage the disease and about how to assist those affected by the disease.
Young people do not want to think about the impact that Cancer can have on their lives or their finances. Often they are just not prepared to deal with the financial aspects that arise if they do require treatment! This puts an unimaginable strain on both them and their families at a time when they are already dealing with a lot.
Recent studies show cancer has become more prevalent in the younger generation over the years; with certain cancers, like testicular cancer and breast cancer, affecting more and more young men and women as early as in their 20’s.
CANCER DOES NOT HAVE TO BE A DEATH SENTENCE. If caught early, it can be treated and beaten. It’s a tough subject to broach – people often whisper “The Big C” and this creates fear and loathing around the topic.
To break this taboo and align our Foundation with a positive and uplifting message, The Vrede Foundation aims to raise cancer awareness amongst the South African youth through music. Music is the cornerstone of The Vrede Foundation’s process and the live music arena in South Africa is providing the stage from which this new message of hope and action can be delivered. At these live music events young South Africans can get information, learn how to be prepared, where to seek counseling, contribute funds to the Foundation’s trust to help their peers and simultaneously HAVE A REALLY GOOD TIME!
More on the Vrede Foundation can be found here
The Adonis Musati Project was named after a young Zimbabwean who died of starvation on the streets of Cape Town while waiting to get his asylum papers. This organisation formed at the end of 2007 in order to ensure that no refugee died of starvation ever again in Cape Town.
Africa has many countries that are either in conflict or have economic situations that are so dire that people are forced to migrate in order to survive. A lot of refugees eventually make their way to the southern most tip of Africa. In South Africa, instead of the relief they had hoped to receive, they face many problems the least of which include persecution, oppression and xenophobia and the worst, rape and death. The majority of these refugees are from Zimbabwe, where since the year 2000 the political and resultant economic situation has deteriorated to an unprecedented degree, due to the devastating rule of the tyrant, Robert Mugabe and his party Zanu PF. However there are also refugees flocking from other impoverished countries whose poverty, suffering and struggles are often overshadowed by Zimbabwe’s crises. These countries include Burundi, the DRC, Kenya, Mozambique, Malawi, Somalia and Tanzania.

Feeding Children in Africa’’s aim is to alleviate the financial burden on a family unit by providing children with school uniforms, stationery, books, education and the basic necessities required to gain understanding and knowledge in life.
To set a proper foundation in a child’s life enabling them to become well rounded individuals who can make a difference in society.
FCIA’s main focus is to help family units in rural areas in South Africa in the first phase.
The long term strategy would be to provide funding for school children from Cape Town to Nairobi in rural communities.

D-seven sings with Just Jinger

This past weekend, we had the privilege of opening for Just Jinger at the Paul Cluver Amphitheater in Elgin. Probably one of the best places in the world to watch live music, the setting was perfect for what turned out to be an incredible night of semi-acoustic music. We were blessed with a packed amphitheater and performed for about 25minutes doing Sex on Fire, Black Eyed Peas, Snow Patrol, Goldfish and ending off with our newest piece What He Means by Just Jinger. It was slightly nerve-racking having Ard, Denim & Brent in the crowd listening to their own song. The EQ was perfect and Sean from MacAudio supported by Brain Quibbel did an amazing job. Ard called us up to sing with them during their performance of What He Means and it was a night we will remember for years and years to come. Thanks to the boys at Just Jinger, Charl, The Cluvers, Maritha, Brian and his team & everyone who came to watch us.

I’ve just heard of a local, Cape Town based group called D7. They’re seven young guys that perform a mix of a’capella and beatboxing. I wish I had heard about them sooner as I would have loved to attend one of their live gigs. I’ve just listened to a few of their sample tracks on their website and I’m seriously impressed… click here for more.

Last month I told you about an up and coming group of seven guys who sing a’capella called D7 Live. You’ve probably heard some of their clips on their site and seen the video I posted… click here for more.
2Oceansvibe:
I’ve been following these guys for a while and once mentioned a concert they were doing at The Bay hotel. Anyway, it has just come to my attention that they have entered that new SA’s Got Talent competition. They’re called D-seven and they’re an acapella group (ie. no instruments – they make their own with their mouths). I’ve just listened to a few of their sample tracks on their website and I’m seriously impressed… click here for more.
D-seven at Up The Creek 2010
December 3, 2009
D-seven is happy to announce that they have just been confirmed for Up the Creek 2010.
One river, three stages, four days, more than 30 live music and comedy acts and 2000 festival goers with a passion for some of South Africa’s best music in common – get ready for Up the Creek 2010!
From 5 – 7 February 2010, the usually quiet campsite close to Swellendam will once again be transformed into a slightly surreal spot of revelry, raging rock and soulful tunes, performances from another planet and shenanigans of the type that you can only pull off when you’re safely tucked in next to the mighty Breede River for four days.
Its an intimate affair with only 2000 tickets being sold, and the line up looks great check it out here. It’s gonna be a must. They say at Up the Creek HQ that they believe that if you live the rest of your life like you do at Up the Creek, it would probably not be a long one. But man – it would have been good! Join in the conversation here .
See you there!

Located on the roof of The Grand Daddy Hotel in Long Street, and within elevator’s reach of the Daddy Cool Bar, the occasion promises to be the perfect intro to spring time revelry.
