Veuve Clicquot Masters

April 14, 2011

(Via Vivid Luxury Blog) The Veuve Clicquot Masters, which promises to be a glamorous day amongst South Africa’s top socialites, VIPs and celebrities is an opportunity to dust of those hats, and get those designer dresses ready.

The highlight, apart from the day’s final Polo Match, will certainly be when renowned South African fashion icon and performance artist, Lindiwe Suttle, launches her debut single, Man Made Moon. A’capella group D7 will also be performing their innovative repertoire. Other highlights of the day include a games hour on the Polo field between Polo matches. Guests will be invited to participate in a game of Pétanque, a form of Boules, with teams of celebrities, media and other guests competing against each other for fun. Exciting prizes such as Hermés fragrances, bottles of Veuve Clicquot, Vouchers by Marios Company for Hair and designer sunglasses by The Oculus will be up for grabs. For the girls, there will also be a Pamper Station where they can get their hair done by Marios Company for Hair, and their make-up done by a Bobby Brown professional. If that’s not enough, those who forgot their hats can select a fabulous hat or fascinator from the Little Hattery to finish off their look. All women are encouraged to wear hats, as is traditional at posh polo events hosted by Veuve Clicquot around the world.

Vusi Mahlasela and D-seven LIVE for Freedom Day weekend

Internationally acclaimed performer Vusi “The Voice” Mahlasela will be on the stage of the Fugard Theatre on 29 and 30 April. Mahlasela will be performing two special shows focusing on his latest album “Say Africa”.

“I am delighted to confirm that Vusi Mahlasela will be playing two live shows at the Fugard Theatre. In keeping with our mission to present top quality local and international acts these two exclusive performances, b…y a world class South African artist, simply add to an already exciting line-up!” said Daniel Galloway, Fugard Theatre’s general manager.

“Say Africa” is the long-awaited follow-up to “Naledi Ya Tsela”, Mahlasela’s 2006 album which earned him the coveted Best Male Artist award at the 2007 South African Music Awards (SAMA). “Say Africa” was recorded in the USA, a first for Mahlasela, and produced by legendary US blues/folk musician Taj Mahal at the Haunted Hollows Studio in Charlottesville. This is the personal studio of Dave Matthews, longtime friend and fan of Vusi.

Mahlasela recorded “Say Africa” with the backing of a handful of expat South African musicians who’ve relocated to the US: Cape Town born drummer/percussionist Ian Herman (of Tananas fame), bassist Bakithi Kumalo (Paul Simon’s regular bassist) and Mongezi Ntaka, a gifted guitarist who played regularly with late Reggae great Lucky Dube.

D-seven, the acclaimed seven member all-male a capella vocal performance group, who recently performed with Grammy award winning artist Imogen Heap, will be the opening performance on the two nights. They create a completely unique experience through their live show. They are suave and slick yet bring a raw, and rough African feel into their songs and are very excited to be opening for Vusi.

These performances, supported by Bottletop Productions & Glenfiddich Scotch Whisky, will also be the first after the upgrade of the Fugard Theatre’s seating. The theatre will hence forth have 280 cinemas-style seats.

DON’T MISS OUT! Tickets for these two unique shows are R150 and R200. Bookings can be made now on www.computicket.com, or by phoning the Fugard Theatre Box Office on 021 461 4554. Reserved seating.

Marching On!

Marching On!

D7 on stage with internationally acclaimed sound engineer Ezra Delport at KZN's Hilton College Theatre on 5 March.

In March, D7 helped KZN’s Hilton College celebrate 20 years of their outstanding theatre programme with two sold-out stage shows, directed by Irit Noble.

Since its opening in 1991, the Hilton College Theatre has become a welcome venue for high-quality, professional productions, serving theatre to a starved local community.

Big thanks to internationally acclaimed sound engineer Ezra Delport who joined us on our trip, as well as to Mrs Doreen Stanley and the entire production crew of the Theatre for your invaluable help in producing two incredible shows. And a special shout-out to our partner Bushmills for our awesome new sign!

Then D7 woke up festival-goers on the last day of the Flamjangled Tea Party outdoor music festival at the end of March, helping to end an awesome weekend of music and relaxation!

Previously on D7…

April 12, 2011

It’s been a while since we’ve let you know about our goings-on, but make no mistake: HUGE things have been happening for D7.

February brought about an amazing opportunity – opening for and performing with Grammy-award winning singer, composer, and songwriter Imogen Heap!

D7 performed with Imogen heap during her sold-out Ellipse tour in Cape Town on 4 & 5 February. Photo by Ross Hiller.

After an incredible first leg in Jo’burg, the UK-based singer of “Hide and Seek” fame took her sold-out Ellipse tour to the beautiful Paul Cluver wine estate in Elgin, just outside Cape Town. The wooded amphitheatre proved the perfect setting for Imogen’s show, which was itself less of a concert and more of an inner view of Imogen’s creative process. Using several different microphones, live looping machines, numerous instruments and her own rich voice, she built each song piece by piece and took the audience along for a magical ride.

We were incredibly honoured to open both shows for Imogen, but the best part by far was performing her hit song “Earth” with the lady herself. Our friends Mikhaela Kruger, Emma Van Heyningen, and Chad Zerf joined us on stage for what was an incredible acapella experience.

While she’s busy working on her next album, we’d like to send a huge thank you to “Immi” for giving us such an incredible opportunity. She is truly one of the most warm, down-to-earth and genuine artists we’ve worked with.

Special thanks go to our engineer Philip Burger, stylist Natasha du Toit, and photographer Ross Hiller – and most importantly to event promoter Charl Van Heyningen for taking such good care of us during the weekend!
