D7 in Concert: The Cape Farmhouse, Scarborough – 26 November

November 14, 2011

Whether you haven’t heard us before, or it’s just been a while since you heard some good music, catch D7 in concert on Saturday, 26 November, at The Cape Farmhouse restaurant near Scarborough!

Situated in a sheltered valley and surrounded by old oak trees, the 250-year-old farmhouse offers relaxing al fresco dining. The farm is sheltered from Cape Town’s infamous ‘South Easter’ summer wind and in winter; one can dine inside the historical building, next to a warm fire. A local favourite, the Farmhouse’s lunchtime menu is Africa-inspired and redolent of the tastes, spices and herbs from Morocco, through to the Cape itself. As much produce as possible is gathered from The Farmhouse’s own organic vegetable gardens.

Best of all, the Farmhouse is renowned for hosting Saturday concerts showcasing the best South African musicians; these are outdoor events with food from the fire and a super-stocked cash bar.

Enjoy an afternoon of great food and awesome entertainment with your favourite a’capella group as we roll out our newest blistering tracks!

Vusi Mahlasela and D-seven LIVE for Freedom Day weekend

Internationally acclaimed performer Vusi “The Voice” Mahlasela will be on the stage of the Fugard Theatre on 29 and 30 April. Mahlasela will be performing two special shows focusing on his latest album “Say Africa”.

“I am delighted to confirm that Vusi Mahlasela will be playing two live shows at the Fugard Theatre. In keeping with our mission to present top quality local and international acts these two exclusive performances, b…y a world class South African artist, simply add to an already exciting line-up!” said Daniel Galloway, Fugard Theatre’s general manager.

“Say Africa” is the long-awaited follow-up to “Naledi Ya Tsela”, Mahlasela’s 2006 album which earned him the coveted Best Male Artist award at the 2007 South African Music Awards (SAMA). “Say Africa” was recorded in the USA, a first for Mahlasela, and produced by legendary US blues/folk musician Taj Mahal at the Haunted Hollows Studio in Charlottesville. This is the personal studio of Dave Matthews, longtime friend and fan of Vusi.

Mahlasela recorded “Say Africa” with the backing of a handful of expat South African musicians who’ve relocated to the US: Cape Town born drummer/percussionist Ian Herman (of Tananas fame), bassist Bakithi Kumalo (Paul Simon’s regular bassist) and Mongezi Ntaka, a gifted guitarist who played regularly with late Reggae great Lucky Dube.

D-seven, the acclaimed seven member all-male a capella vocal performance group, who recently performed with Grammy award winning artist Imogen Heap, will be the opening performance on the two nights. They create a completely unique experience through their live show. They are suave and slick yet bring a raw, and rough African feel into their songs and are very excited to be opening for Vusi.

These performances, supported by Bottletop Productions & Glenfiddich Scotch Whisky, will also be the first after the upgrade of the Fugard Theatre’s seating. The theatre will hence forth have 280 cinemas-style seats.

DON’T MISS OUT! Tickets for these two unique shows are R150 and R200. Bookings can be made now on www.computicket.com, or by phoning the Fugard Theatre Box Office on 021 461 4554. Reserved seating.

Imogen Heap’s Supporting Acts Announced

January 31, 2011

Via BUZ Publicity

Cape Town features strongly in the supporting acts just announced for the avante garde  British musician’s SA shows

It has just been revealed that the widely hailed ‘progressive’ musician Yoav will be the support act for the Johannesburg leg of Ms Heap’s tour, while the slick outfit D7 will be kicking off the Cape Town shows. Both support acts will be performing Ms Heap’s hit song, Earth, with her.

D7

The fresh and exciting all-male group D7 (you guessed it; seven of ‘em!) hail from The Mother City, and have been wowing audiences with their funky, sassy mix of a’capella and beatboxing. They’ve also been setting more than a few hearts aflutter with their sexy, stylish stage presentation!

D7 offer up fresh interpretations of the classic, all-gold sounds of artists such as The Temptations, Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles and The Chiffons, whilst also taking on more contemporary sounds, such as those of Coldplay and Goldfish, Jason Mraz amongst many others. The lads are deeply honoured to be opening for the great Ms Heap, and have added five more performers to the mix, including two girls.

Yoav

Cape Town-born singer/songwriter Yoav was gigging in New York City when he began developing an interest in electronic music and the club/dance culture that surrounded it. He was intrigued by the challenge of infusing his more traditional singer/songwriter compositions with this electronic vibe, and, in the process, developed a more rhythmic, percussive way of playing the guitar and writing his music.

Yoav moved to the U.K. in 2006, where he eventually signed with the label Field Recordings. He’s really excited about bringing his sounds back to the country of his birth.

Sold Out Shows

“We’ve been delighted with the public response to the tour,” says an elated Charl van Heyningen, the show’s promoter. “Both the Cape Town shows are sold out, and the first leg up in Jo’burg went remarkably well.
