Beach Boys in SA

October 4, 2010

beach-boys-picIconic 1960s’ surf-sound band The Beach Boys will be touring South Africa later this year, playing at ICC Durban on 4 December, GrandWest Casino, Cape Town on 6 and 7 December, and Sun City Superbowl on 10 and 11 December, 2010.

Since the 1960s the American pop rock band The Beach Boys represented the best of summer. They gained popularity for their laid back harmonies and lyrics celebrating the easy beach and surfing lifestyle of southern California with albums such as “Surfin’ USA”, “All Summer Long”, “Summer Days and Summer Nights” and “All Summer Long”.

The reformed band, which includes founding member Mike Love and Bruce John will perform live in Cape Town at the GrandWest Grand Arena on 6 and 7 December, 2010, where they will perform many of their hit songs such as: I Get around, Good Vibrations, Help Me Rhonda, California Girls and Kokomo.

More US top-40 hits

Over the past 49 years, the band’s accolades have included more US top 40 hits than any other US rock band (36), being listed 12th on Rolling Stone magazine’s 100 Greatest Artists of All Time, and the number one-selling American band of all time by Billboard.

The current band consists of founding member Mike Love on lead vocals and Bruce Johnston on vocals and keyboards, supported by Christian Love on guitar and vocals, Randell Kirsch on bass and vocals, Tim Bonhomme on keyboards and vocals, John Cowsill on percussion and vocals and Scott Totten on guitar and vocals.

D-seven runs at On Broadway

August 2, 2010

D-seven is an all male a capella (voice only) music group.  A Capella music has, for an exceptionally long period, suffered under the impression that it was a music genre lacking sex appeal, audience-accessibility and commercial viability, and perhaps a touch lame.

Needless to say, perceptions haven’t hindered D-seven, a bold new ensemble that has set the Cape Town music performance scene alight with tight sets, fitted jeans, slick moves and smooth music.  And if first impressions are anything to go by, many a fan of high-quality live music will be grovelling to the musical gods in thanks for a long while to come.

And grovel you just might.  The men of D-seven certainly are a sight to match their sound, which is itself winning wide acclaim.  The group is moving from strength to strength, having performed to packed houses on some of the countries premier stages, as well as a number of local television stations.

With hits including ‘Faith’, ‘Stand by me’, Crazy little thing called love’, ‘Pata Pata’ and medleys of music made famous by Michael Jackson, Beach Boys, Goldfish and Justin Timberlake amongst others, there is something for everyone!

D-seven have just returned from a debut run at The National Arts Festival in Grahamstown, where they managed to secure a Standard Bank Ovation Award for being one of the top 36 shows in over 600 productions.  Now they’ll be hitting the stage of On Broadway with the same gusto for your listening (and viewing) pleasure.

Visit www.d7live.com for further information.

Tickets cost R75.00 each.
