Iconic 1960s’ surf-sound band The Beach Boys will be touring South Africa later this year, playing at ICC Durban on 4 December, GrandWest Casino, Cape Town on 6 and 7 December, and Sun City Superbowl on 10 and 11 December, 2010.
Since the 1960s the American pop rock band The Beach Boys represented the best of summer. They gained popularity for their laid back harmonies and lyrics celebrating the easy beach and surfing lifestyle of southern California with albums such as “Surfin’ USA”, “All Summer Long”, “Summer Days and Summer Nights” and “All Summer Long”.
The reformed band, which includes founding member Mike Love and Bruce John will perform live in Cape Town at the GrandWest Grand Arena on 6 and 7 December, 2010, where they will perform many of their hit songs such as: I Get around, Good Vibrations, Help Me Rhonda, California Girls and Kokomo.
More US top-40 hits
Over the past 49 years, the band’s accolades have included more US top 40 hits than any other US rock band (36), being listed 12th on Rolling Stone magazine’s 100 Greatest Artists of All Time, and the number one-selling American band of all time by Billboard.
The current band consists of founding member Mike Love on lead vocals and Bruce Johnston on vocals and keyboards, supported by Christian Love on guitar and vocals, Randell Kirsch on bass and vocals, Tim Bonhomme on keyboards and vocals, John Cowsill on percussion and vocals and Scott Totten on guitar and vocals.
The show starts at 8pm. Tickets are available from Computicket from R220 to R500.

We first met this lovely lady at the 5fm Ladies Night, and well we admit, it was love at first sight! However, due to us going through a heap of directors, choreographers, staging advisors, the boys were very cautious with working with yet another “Director”… however we couldn’t have been more wrong. In 10 or so hours, she took a bunch of boys with a singing problem, and transformed them into a slick, sophisticated pack of refined gentlemen.
It was an absolute pleasure working with Irit. She managed to bring out each member’s character’s whilst maintaining a collective feel. D-seven was transformed and polished and from that performed a very successful 7 week run at On Broadway. For those that saw pre Irit D-seven and post Irit D-seven will agree that this lady has some serious talent as a musical director. She added a lot more than professional direction and polish, but left the group with a motivation and morale that is the best yet….
To Irit Noble…
Thank you, much love and respect…

D-seven is an all male a capella (voice only) music group. A Capella music has, for an exceptionally long period, suffered under the impression that it was a music genre lacking sex appeal, audience-accessibility and commercial viability, and perhaps a touch lame.
Needless to say, perceptions haven’t hindered D-seven, a bold new ensemble that has set the Cape Town music performance scene alight with tight sets, fitted jeans, slick moves and smooth music. And if first impressions are anything to go by, many a fan of high-quality live music will be grovelling to the musical gods in thanks for a long while to come.
And grovel you just might. The men of D-seven certainly are a sight to match their sound, which is itself winning wide acclaim. The group is moving from strength to strength, having performed to packed houses on some of the countries premier stages, as well as a number of local television stations.
With hits including ‘Faith’, ‘Stand by me’, Crazy little thing called love’, ‘Pata Pata’ and medleys of music made famous by Michael Jackson, Beach Boys, Goldfish and Justin Timberlake amongst others, there is something for everyone!
D-seven have just returned from a debut run at The National Arts Festival in Grahamstown, where they managed to secure a Standard Bank Ovation Award for being one of the top 36 shows in over 600 productions. Now they’ll be hitting the stage of On Broadway with the same gusto for your listening (and viewing) pleasure.
Visit www.d7live.com for further information.
Tickets cost R75.00 each.

” D-Seven equals seven good-looking guys, seven microphones and one stage. There is no doubt that an electrifying, unique and yes, sexy experience is sure to follow.
The Cape Town-based band started experimenting with different styles of music, such as a cappella and beat boxing, in 2007. Since then they have performed at various South African festivals, and they have even made an appearance on South Africa’s Got Talent.
D-Seven: Fresh a Cappella performs a repertoire that can appeal to anyone, rendering songs from Coldplay to the Manhattans and even Josh Groban. These guys perform with such precision that it makes you wonder if there isn’t a full instrumental band hiding behind the stage. Their instruments are hidden in their voice boxes, allowing them to travel light.
To prove to the audience that they were not faking it and lip syncing, they put down their mics and performed a couple of songs right in front of the audience, unplugged. Needless to say, they were the real deal.
To end off the show, D-Seven performed their own version of Wavin’ flag, to which the audience responded with a standing ovation.
When not performing with D-Seven, these guys lead normal lives, with jobs, studies and wives or future wives. They are currently working on their first album with The School of Audio Engineering in Cape Town. Patrick Craig, their manager, says, “I would love to go overseas with the guys.” .

(Via PSFK) A new extension for Google’s Chrome browser has made it 100 times more enjoyable to search for and play free music on the web.
“ExtensionFM is a browser extension for Chrome that finds every MP3 file on pages you visit and automatically creates a library of those songs for you to enjoy.”
Ever hear a song on a blog you like and then forget where and what the song is? Or are you ever directed to a music blog and spend more than 30 seconds looking for the song you wanted to hear? Or do you just skip music blogs in general for lack of a seamless playlist?
This is where ExtensionFM works beautifully. Once you’ve landed on a page with available MP3s, the ExtensionFM icon shows a little blue number count of the total available MP3s. The extension then swiftly pulls all available free MP3s into a drop down menu in the top right corner of the browser.
Play the song from the extension’s streaming playlist in the top right or on the horizontal source bar at the bottom of the screen. Like the song? Add it to your queue and continue to play it ever after you’ve left the page. Don’t like the song? Hit X. ExtensionFM allows users to receive a constantly updated stream of new music from previously visited sites and features a “site of the day” on their blog.
